Business Man Jumping in AirFUN AND GAMES for Unaccompanied Oboe
I call this my circus act for unaccompanied oboe. Written as a demonstration piece for the instrument it covers a wide range from bottom Bb up to top G. It is written in a very jocular style using fast chromatic assages, double-tonguing and large leaps. It is very much an entertainment and crowd pleaser, appealing especially to those who like to see others suffer!
Approximate duration: 3 minutes                                             Price £5.95

GEMSTONES for Oboe & Piano
This 5 movement piece was written for a former pupil, Simon Emes. Simon was formerly co-principal oboe of both the Halle and the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestras and is, currently, principal oboe with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. Each movement represents a different precious stone, all of which have traditional mythical characteristics attributed to them. The movements are: 1. Black Diamond (Nothingness; mystical void); 2. Ruby (Energy; violence); 3. Pearl (Purity); 4. Topaz (Nobility; regal splendour); 5. White Diamond (Essence of brilliance).
Approxiamate duration 11 minutes
Price £8.95

CABARET TIME for Oboe & Piano
This piece was written for a charity concert in aid of the National Children’s Homes. It plays continuously but has three sections, each representing some aspect of a typical cabaret bill. The first section is entitled “Rotten Comics” (of the corny “I say, I say, I say” variety). The second section is a “Torch Song” (a plaintive song of unrequited love). The third section is entitled “Dancing Girls” and speaks for itself.  Approxiamate duration 3’20”                                                                                                    Price £5.95

THE DUCK’S WALTZ for Oboe & Piano
This work was commissioned as a test piece for the Cambridge Intermediate Woodwind Competition. It is in a straight-forward ABA form with a lyrical waltz tune either side of a more animated and ‘athletic’ theme.  Approxiamate duration 2’20”                                                                                                       Price £5.95

SONATINA for Cor Anglais & Harpsichord/Piano
The three movements of this work are: 1. Scherzo; 2. Siciliana; 3. Skittish. The central movement is a lilting rhapsody in changing compound times using the familiar gentle tone of the Cor Anglais. The outer movements, however, show the instrument in a much more aggressive light. The Cor Anglais can be just as spiky and flamboyant as the oboe when required. These movements prove that the Cor Anglais can “quck” with the best of them.  Approximate duration 6’15”                                                        Price: £7.70

TWO POPULAR SONGS WITHOUT WORDS for Cor Anglais & Piano
The Cor Anglais is noted principally for the lovely tunes it is often given in the orchestral repertoire: – New World Symphony (Dvorak), William Tell Overture (Rossini) and Symphony in D (Franck). Being of similar pitch to the alto saxophone its rich sonority lends itself to the playing of ballad-like melodies and light-music generally. This is what led me to write the piece.  Approximate duration: 4’30”
Price £5.95

PARTITA FOR THE THIRD AGE for Flute & Piano
This piece was written for long-time friends and colleagues Jay & Nigel Wilkinson to celebrate their 60th birthdays. There are five movements entitled: 1. Prelude; 2. Nocturne; 3. Scherzo; 4. Intermezzo;
5. Finale.  Approximate duration: 10 minutes                                                                                         Price: £8.95

THREE PIECES for Unaccompanied ‘Cello
An unaccompanied piece for ‘cello written as a demonstration piece for the instrument. In a generally light-hearted vein the movements are: 1. Recitative & Aria; 2. Inebriation; 3. Variations on a Happy Little Tune.  Approximate duration: 9 minutes                                                                                        Price £6.70

HARPSICHORD SUITE
The five contrasting movements of this piece are: 1. Prelude; 2. Pastoral; 3. Comedy; 4. Ragtime;
5. Finale.
The main feature of the work is the juxtaposition of the traditional harpsichord sound and contemporary styles, harmony and rhythm.  Approximate duration: 10 minutes                                  Price £8.95

CHRISTMAS HOLLY for Flute & Piano
This piece of about Grade 3 standard was written for my niece, Holly Grange as a Christmas present; – hence the title. It is in two sections, Snowfall On the Sledge. Approximate duration: 1’25”        Price £4.95
